Economic Development

Ghana has taken great strides towards eradicating poverty over the last two decades. However, economic development is highly unequal in Ghana, with nearly a quarter of the population still living below the UN’s poverty line. There is a lack of employment diversity in the rural Volta Region, with opportunities beyond fishing and farming hard to come by.

Within all our community development programmes, we aim to create new forms of income that can be sustained from within the communities we work alongside. Our sanitation project employs full time masons, our sports programme maintains incomes for coaches and our reforestation efforts provide new income streams for the families our of tree tenders. We also support local businesses, such as clothing production and soap-making.
